Step-by-Step Instructions
-
Prepare Your Cords: Cut 8 pieces of rope, each 12 feet long.
-
Attach to Dowel: Fold each cord in half and attach to the dowel using lark's head knots. You'll have 16 working cords.
-
Create First Row: Using groups of 4 cords, tie square knots across the entire row.
-
Second Row: Offset the pattern by leaving the first 2 cords free, then tie square knots using the remaining cords in groups of 4.
-
Continue Pattern: Repeat steps 3-4 for 10 rows, creating a diamond pattern.
-
Add Fringe: Trim the bottom cords at an angle and comb them out for a feathery finish.
-
Hang: Attach hanging cord to each end of the dowel.
Tips for Success
- Keep tension consistent
- Measure often to ensure symmetry
- Don't be afraid to undo and retry knots
- Start with simple patterns
Your first macramé piece might not be perfect, but it will be uniquely yours!
